It pinched the wrong god.
That’s how the stories start — a little crab, bold as brass, scuttling across a tidepool altar meant for something older, something watching. The offering was not meant for him. But he didn’t care. He raised his claw, snapped it once in defiance, and vanished with the tide.
Days passed. Then weeks. Then the sea began to whisper. Fish swam backwards. Barnacles grew in spirals. Somewhere beneath the waves, something laughed.
What washed ashore wasn’t quite a crab claw anymore. It carried too much weight for that — not in size, but in knowing. It glinted strangely in the light, like metal and memory fused together. People who pick it up report odd dreams, and the persistent feeling they’ve forgotten something important.
