This leaf — small, split, curled like a sigh — was found beneath the last ginkgo to grow in the garden of a forgotten sanatorium. It trembled on the edge of a cracked stone sill, caught between staying and vanishing, the air around it heavy with things unsaid.
No one remembers the names of those who once wandered those halls, only that their dreams were too loud, their silences too long. The leaf bears the hush of their departure — not torn away, but drifting, quietly undone. A remnant of someone who nearly remained.
Even now, it feels like a breath might lift it from your palm and carry it back to the wind.
