Recovered already split. Cap displaced at an angle, not a clean separation. Edges uneven, lifted slightly. No signs of impact or decay.
Tree of origin showed clear decline. Adjacent acorns failed to form fully. This specimen hardened regardless, retaining a complete outer structure. Split occurred before collection and did not progress further.
Copper deposition favoured the rupture. Build-up is thickest along the seam, forming clustered growths that obscure the original edge. Surface otherwise stable, aside from a faint green trace that does not polish out. Ring formation required a second contact; current instability noted.
Set aside with others from the same batch. Surface continues to change after removal. Faint deposit observed.
Margin note: It’s happening again.
